Assistant, Institute of Leadership and Service

Position Type: Federal Work Study Only

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. The ELP Ambassador serves as a key representative for their respective college (CHASS, E&S, CBA, CHP/MSN, and Architecture) or Unit (Athletics, University Ministry, Greek Life, SPB, SGA), promoting and supporting the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) through participation in sponsored events and programming.
  2. The Ambassador works closely with and reports to the Assistant Coordinator(s) of the ELP, acting as a vital resource for educating Detroit Mercy students about the program.
  3. They assist students by providing information, answering questions, and guiding them through the program's requirements, ensuring they stay engaged and can fully benefit from leadership development opportunities.
  4. Additionally, the Ambassador serves as a liaison between students and the ELP Coordinator, facilitating communication and tracking student progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a representative of the ELP.
  • Support ELP events and provide on-site assistance as needed.
  • Promote and facilitate student participation and engagement.
  • Produce ideas for future events, activities, and programming.
  • Partner with organizations/colleges to increase student awareness.
  • Hold “Office Hours” to assist students with program requirements and Detroit Mercy Live submissions.
  • Refer students to appropriate resources and opportunities for further involvement in leadership and service
  • activities.
  • Meet with the ELP team twice monthly to brainstorm, evaluate, and provide status updates.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Working on earning the ELP Pin and Medallion

  • Self-directive task management.
  • Ability to ask questions or conduct independent investigation to better achieve task goals -Year long.
