Winter Interpretive Naturalist – Seasonal (Non-Exempt)
Rate: $11.25/hour – starting rate based on prior experience and education
Location: Penitentiary Glen Reservation, Kirtland, OH 44094
Position Description:
Under direction of the Interpretive Manager, the Winter Seasonal Interpretive Naturalist plans and presents the seasonal holiday program and exhibit with a fun, family-oriented theme. Assists with exhibit setup and take-down, visitor contact and interpretation of the Nature Center exhibits, and sales in The Nature Store at Penitentiary Glen Reservation. Potential for winter naturalist-led program presentations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assists with moving and constructing portions of the winter holiday exhibit.
- Fills Naturalist on Duty (NOD) role during exhibit.
- Works as sales associate in The Nature Store during exhibit.
- Assists with maintenance duties as assigned.
- Presents interpretive programs to all ages.
- Assists with snowshoe rentals in Nature Center.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be pursuing a degree in natural sciences, environmental education or a related field.
- Experience in visitor services and cultural history, natural sciences, theater, or creative arts preferred.
- Retail experience preferred.
Position Requirements:
- Skilled in customer service.
- Skilled in interpersonal communication and creative thinking.
- Basic knowledge of native Ohio wildlife and natural history.
- Proficiency in computer software programs including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Variable work schedule, up to 40 hours per week the months of November through February.
- Will be required to work some flexible hours, weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Must possess a valid drivers’ license and insurable on the Agency’s liability policy. Background check required.
