Intern, Network Technician

 

Wage Rate = $16.75 per hour

 

The Intern, Network Technician will provide entry level technical support of networks and network devices (under general supervision)

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Provide customer service and support for network and technology related questions and concerns.

2 Answer telephone calls and emails, providing networking assistance.

3. Understand the jobs and responsibilities of all Information Services employees, to provide additional assistance for questions and concerns outside the scope of the Infrastructure requirements.

4. Acquire knowledge of the networks and network devices supported, as well as working knowledge of additional products and infrastructure to provide technical support and information to necessary parties.

5. Regularly assist the network and infrastructure teams with analysis and resolution of hardware, network, and other problems of entry level complexity; refer problems of higher complexity to personnel possessing an advanced level of technical expertise.

6. May be involved in product testing, evaluation, and recommendation of applications/hardware to determine applicability to existing and future user needs, as well as in defining and resolving technical problems of entry level complexity. 

7. Responsible for assisting other network and infrastructure staff in collection and dissemination of information such as new products, product updates, etc.

8. Perform other duties as assigned.
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience: Current student in a Computer Science related field who is working towards an associate degree or higher. Grade Point Average of 3.0 or higher. Demonstrated ability to organize and follow-through on customer service requests.

 

Skills: General working knowledge of network and infrastructure devices, theory, and protocols are required.

 

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

 

Environmental Demands:  Work indoors; occasional travel to Dairyland power generation sites.

 

Other Job Characteristics: Must be team-oriented and an independent worker. Frequent interaction with end-users and Technical Services staff. Routine and variable tasks. Frequently fast-paced/high pressure work environment. Must be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and patient. Must maintain confidentiality of accessible information.
