Job Description: 

 

PCR is looking for a full time Field Research Scientist to execute contracted clients field experiments and assays under both greenhouse and field settings. This individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, developing protocols with clients, trial placement and set up, in field evaluations and regulating plant growth throughout the season. Success in this role will require hands on experience in plant growth and maintenance, collection and evaluation of plant data and harvest collection. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the agricultural screening pipelines for companies.

 

The Field Research Scientist works alongside a team of other Research Scientists, Research Assistants and interns. This role is based on-site, in Great Bend, KS with potential for growth and relocation to our other facilities after a year. This is a very team-focused role. 

 

Compensation is based on years of experience and education. Compensation target is $75,000 - $90,000 base salary, with performance bonus potential. Company truck provided. 

 

PCR reserves the ability to adjust the compensation range based on the final candidate’s experience, skillset, and geography. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Design, execute and maintain controlled environment, research fields, and greenhouse experiments for the evaluation. 
  • Collect data, perform statistical analysis and build reports. 
  • Monitor plant health and growth.
  • Work within the team to help accomplish the objectives of the season in meeting clients needs. 

 

Targeted Skills and Experience

  • BS degree in Biology, Plant Science, Agronomy or another science-based degree. Preferred MS in an Agronomy based degree. 
  • Basic experience with or knowledge of row crop agriculture.
  • Must be able to work with chemicals, pesticides and other substances and wear personal protective equipment when necessary and/or required. 
  • Ability to work in outside and/or greenhouse conditions of high/low temperatures, humidity, light, etc.; lift and carry at least 50 lb; stand/walk for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks that may be physically demanding. 
  • Exceptional problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, high attention to detail, excellent communication and teamwork skills. 
  • Knowledge in experimental design and statistical analysis. 
  • Knowledge of plant diseases and pest management practices. 
  • A strong commitment to achieving goals and looks for ways to overcome obstacles in experimental execution. Takes responsibility for setting up, maintaining, collecting and analyzing data for a variety of projects and scopes. 
  • Knowledge of machinery and/or farm experience a plus but not required.
