Air/Field Scientist (Chemist I)

This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain/transfer/maintain your Public Trust certification.

 

Serco serves as prime for EPA contract, implementing the OAQPS ambient air program out of the EPA Region 6 Houston Laboratory.  Our team delivers the EPA’s performance evaluation program for ambient air instrumentation, monitoring air quality for particulate, including PM2.5 and TSP-Pb, and criteria gas pollutants, including ozone, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides.

In this position, you will:

  • Transport a 20-ft. trailer through the five-state region (Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana) to remote ambient air monitoring stations
  • Perform site visits using robust electronic instrumentation for collection of samples and analytical data
  • Complete accurate reports documenting audits performed and program status
  • Maintain recordkeeping, including electronic and hardcopy logs
  • Perform internal quality assurance, including sampler collocation and line loss test
  • Maintain and repair instrumentation, order parts, interface with vendors
  • Coordinate visits with State, Local, and Tribal site operators
  • Team with Serco, our EPA sponsor, and a national network of professionals to drive continuous quality improvement

To ensure success, you have:           

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry
  • Ability to travel and drive long distances
  • Ability to work independently in remote locations
  • Ability to pull and maneuver 20-ft. trailer
  • Ability to repetitively lift sizable items up to 50-lb
  • Ability to climb ladders and work on elevated platforms
  • Ability to perform precise measurements and operate analytical instrumentation
  • Good mathematics skills
  • Good communication skills (oral and written)
  • Good analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Resilient, resourceful, can-do attitude, ability to ‘think on feet’

Position is contingent upon Public Trust certification
