Resident Advisor - Part-Time On-Campus Co-op

As a member of the Resident Education and Development staff, Resident Advisors (RAs) will

  • Work to implement The Bearcat Experience, upholding the values of Learning, Leadership, Inclusion, and Community through their interactions with others
  • Assess and respond to the needs of residents on a continual basis
  • Know, enforce, and explain policies about the conduct system
  • Complete assigned paperwork and administrative tasks
  • Develop one-on-one relationships with residents
  • Facilitate programs that build community and meet the needs of their floor, hall, and residential community
  • Be visible, available, and approachable to residents
  • Be knowledgeable of safety concerns and emergency procedures
  • Serve as a peer counselor/mentor
  • Be familiar with campus and community resources
  • Adhere to the regulations regarding student privacy
  • Model appropriate behavior at all times
  • Work specified on-call shifts throughout each semester

In order to be selected for and hold a Resident Advisor (“RA”), including Head Resident Advisor position, an individual must fulfill the following requirements: 

  • Abide by all University of Cincinnati (“University”) Board Rules, Student Code of Conduct, Guide to University Living, University Housing Agreement, other University policies, RED Emergency Response Protocol, and all applicable local, state, and federal law.
  • Be registered as a full-time undergraduate student as defined by the University during the term of their employment.
  • Have and maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.50.
  • Successfully pass a Federal Bureau of Investigation and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation background check through UC’s Department of Public Safety.
  • Be in good standing with the University in all academic, financial, employment, and student conduct matters.
  • Resident Advisors are restricted from holding the following positions in Student Government: President, Vice President.  Additionally, RAs are restricted from holding an executive board position in Residence Hall Association, or President of the National Residence Hall Honorary positions.

 

  To satisfy an experiential learning requirement, students' successful completion of the On-Campus Co-op Program involves enrollment in at least one COOP 2000/3000/4000 Co-op Professional Development & Reflection online course*, led by the College of Cooperative Education and Professional Studies faculty, and additional professional development requirements in Canvas.


a. Students who can enroll for credits within their full-time schedule (12 – 18 credits) will enroll in COOP 2000/3000/4000 and the Service-Learning Co-op Canvas Page to complete professional development requirements
b. Students who are not able to enroll for credits in their full-time schedule, or are taking classes part time, or are working over the summer will enroll in the On-Campus Co-op Canvas Page to complete professional development requirements
*The course provides academic-based reflection and course assignments to guide the student in reflection and integration of coursework and skill development. Students can enroll in 1-3 credit hours, with an exemption for students who are below 12 or at or above 18 credits during an academic term, students may defer for up to one academic semester.


A note for Work Study eligible students: Completing academic coursework and professional development requirements is an integral element of the On-Campus Co-op Program. The student will be compensated either from departmental funds or the Federal Work-Study program while they complete their On-Campus Co-op and/or complete COOP course requirements. The course is not a requirement to receive federal work study funds, rather, it is a requirement for On-Campus Co-op.
