Archives Student Assistant
University Libraries – Archives and Special Collections
Position Summary:
Archives student assistants will work with the Archives staff to inventory and organize historical materials, preserve materials through physical and/or digital means, and help answer reference questions.
Supervision:
Student assistants will report to the Archives Associate Senior for work assignments and scheduling.
Responsibilities:
Organize and inventory historical documents and artifacts
Preserve historical materials
Scan or photocopy historical documents and images
Shelve books and periodicals
Research selected topics as needed
Qualifications or Requirements:
Appreciation for history and historical documents
Background in History or English preferred but not required
Attention to detail and the ability to follow directions
Familiarity with Microsoft Office
Familiarity with scanning equipment preferred
Excellent communication skills
Ability to stand/walk on rough surfaces for long periods, bend and/or stoop, and lift items up to 40 lb. (18 kg.)
Hours:
Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, no evenings or weekends, 8-12 hours per week.
Salary Range:
Minimum wage to start. Possible raises based on budget and/or job performance.
