Overview The Communications intern will work directly with our Communications Manager to effectively create communication campaigns and expand ongoing grant-writing and alumni-program projects.
Opportunities/Project Duties
- Create social media posts and strategy
- Design graphics for print and digital.
- Take photos of wishes or other noteworthy events
- Research and craft stories about the children and families we serve, our donors and our volunteers.
- Develop marketing materials and advertisements
- Write and research grants (optional)
- Assist with wish family alumni program
- Outreach to various marketing partners and other stakeholders.
- Other projects as needed.
The successful Work U student will:

- Provide personal warmth when working with wish families or outside vendors
- Be flexible and can listen, coach, and collaborate
- Be creative, take initiative and have a sense of humor.
- Embody a sense of maturity and professionalism to ensure meaningful interactions with internal and external audiences.
- Be able to follow the Make-A-Wish branding guide and guidelines, especially on social media
Skills you will develop
- Gain confidence in working with others in a professional setting
- Experience working with a National Brand
- Gain firsthand writing, graphic design, photography and/or videography experience and have a portfolio of published materials to use toward future employment.
- Learn to provide timely outreach to a variety of people, like wish families, donors, and vendors.
