The 13 Western states are critical to the U.S. economy, home to over 78 million people and responsible for nearly 20% of the nation’s GDP. Yet, this vital region faces unprecedented water challenges. 

Climate-driven water scarcity, booming population growth, and the surging demands of critical industries like agriculture, data centers, and semiconductor manufacturing are pushing the region’s water resources to their limits. With the Colorado River and other key water sources under immense strain, key stakeholders respond though innovative solutions, from water reuse and desalination to smart irrigation and digital water management technologies.

Bluefield Research is seeking a Research Associate to lead our efforts in analyzing and communicating these evolving dynamics of water management to our growing roster of clients. This role offers a unique opportunity to guide company strategies and decisions. As a thought leader in this field, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of water management.

Become a thought leader in water

  • Regional Water Market Analysis:  Monitor market trends, outcomes, policies and potentially disruptive factors impacting water management opportunities in the West. Key research topics will include water reuse, digital water, policy and water resources management.
  • Company Insights: Keep pace with changing business strategies of the leading companies on the West Coast from engineering to technology to smart irrigation companies.
  • Data Collection: Work with Bluefield’s data team to identify relevant water data sets and apply our research methodology to carry out forecasting and other data exercises.
  • Client Support: Provide support to research and consulting teams on inquiries from our growing West coast client base.
  • Industry Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients, identifying opportunities for new business and revenue growth in western states.
  • Business Development: Collaborate with the sales team help identify companies and drive business development efforts in the water for agriculture space. This may include client workshops, webinars, speaking engagements, and industry conferences.

Show off your skills and experience:

  • 2 to 5 years relevant experience, within the water management, agriculture, infrastructure, engineering, or market research fields, preferred.
  • Demonstrated interest in West Coast water issues will set you apart.
  • Proficiency with MS applications required (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Qlik, Sisense) is preferred.
  • A keen attention to detail and highly effective organization skills including the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively collaborate with clients, prospects and industry stakeholders.
  • Self-starter who is also team player that works well with others.
  • Flexible to travel to clients and industry conferences, as needed.

The Basics:

  • College or University degree, required; MBA or business degree, preferred.
  • Background in water management resources is a plus.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • This position is based in Berkeley, California.
