Major duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Identifying, evaluating, and monitoring cultural resources, identifying potential threats, making recommendations to management regarding status and mitigation of impacts (present and future), and maintaining the parks Archeological Sites database.
Responsibility for the preparation of historic preservation documentation, compliance, and background materials as required by Section 106 and Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), Archeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA), National Park Service Management Policies, and cultural resources management guidelines.
Recommending, planning for, and executing archeological investigations required to meet National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Archeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA), National Park Service guidelines, and the research needs of the park.
Determining research needs and coordinating efforts toward obtaining research through various programs, grants, and contracts.
Developing and maintaining liaisons and effective working relations with related groups and individuals, agencies, and the public.
