
Camp Photographer
Are you a media/arts student looking for a fun environment to put your photography skills to use? North Star Camp in Wisconsin is looking for individuals with experience in either or both areas for the coming summer! We are actively hiring staff for the summer of 2025 at our summer camp in Northern Wisconsin.
Compensation for these positions:
- Competitive summer salary. Range is from $2500 - $4000 for the summer depending on experience and certifications.

Please only apply if you are interested in a summer seasonal position working with kids and are willing to relocate to Northern Wisconsin from June - August. We're looking for a photographer who can shoot a wide variety of photos of our campers and staff. The ideal candidate can take action/sports, still life, group and portrait pictures as well as nature photos. The photographer will do some minor editing of photos if needed and then post them to an online photo album.
Photographer should have knowledge of various cameras to shoot, including but not limited to Digital SLRs, Go Pros, Drones and other equipment. Experience with video editing software (Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop) is expected. Camp will provide equipment for shooting and editing photos, however you may use your own equipment if you prefer.
We are looking to hire both a videographer and a photographer, however these positions can be held by the same person if they have the necessary skills. This is a great opportunity to use your creative abilities to add to your own portfolio as well.
North Star pays a very competitive summer salary, reimburses for travel expenses and will also pay to put staffers through various certification courses.
In addition to salary food and lodging is provided for all staff throughout their term of employment and also have their travel reimbursed.

Every summer, approximately 300 campers come to the shores of Spider Lake to make new friends, learn new skills, grow as individuals and make memories that last a lifetime. The Photographer Role In A Nutshell
We’re looking for a Camp photographer to help capture all of the summer’s magical moments. This role starts June 3 and runs through August 16 at our summer camp in Hayward, Wisconsin. Room with the opportunity to extend through late August if desired. Room and board is included with compensation.
A Typical Day (Even Though There’s No Such Thing As A Typical Day At Camp…)
- Wake up and grab breakfast with some of the other out-of-cabin staff. You ask how their day off was yesterday – they went to Duluth and hung out at the beach!
- The First Period bell rings, so you head over to riflery and archery to get some action shots.
- 2nd Period you'll spend time on the waterfront taking pics of kids at waterskiing, sailing and windsurfing.
- The lunch bell rings, so you head back to the Lodge to grab some grilled cheese and tomato soup. You sit with some of the office staff and catch up on the morning.
- After lunch, it’s Rest Period for the campers – you head to one of the cabins to capture cabin life.
- Third Period comes around and there are a lot of activities happening on the athletic fields. You'll get some great pics of softball, football and ultimate.
- The rest of the afternoon is Green-White events, so you roam from activity to activity to capture the team spirit as the teams compete in basketball, canoe relays, and soccer.
- It’s dinner time! BBQ Chicken and Martha’s Cinnamon Bread – your favorite meal at camp.
- Evening program is an All-Camp Campfire. You head to the Council Ring and make sure you find a good spot to capture some of the evening – talking contests, singalongs and more.
- As the campers head back to their cabins for the night, you head to the Lodge to review some of the pics you took that day. You'll edit pics and then upload then to a website where all parents can see them. You'll post a handful of daily highlight pics to instragram and facebook as well.

- You have an eye for detail. While we’re not a professional studio, programs like Adobe Photoshop, Indesign and Lightroom help us organize and edit pics for our website and social media. You’ll need to use this software.
- You’re organized. You’ll be responsible for putting together our Summer-In-Review Yearbook after the summer.
- You’re a team player. Being a part of the North Star community means working well with others – whether on the job or hanging out with staff on time off. There are personal sacrifices that come with being at camp but the rewards are worth it for a summer of fun and personal growth.
- You love being everywhere and anywhere to capture the magic of camp. Whether it’s UN Day, North Star Games, a camping trip, or just a regular program period, there are so many exciting events to capture throughout the summer. The best photographers are the ones who are constantly on the move making sure we can capture the game’s winning goal or the cabin that is having the most fun.
