Legislative & Budget Intern

The City Council's Black, Latino and Asian Caucus (BLAC) consists of 34 of the 51 members of the City Council. The Caucus convenes to make sure that issues of particular concern to the City's Black, Latino and Asian communities are being addressed through the legislative, oversight and budgetary powers of the City Council. The BLAC seeks a Legislative & Budget Intern with an interest in public service, city government, legislation and public policy. The Internship is an excellent opportunity to learn about the inside workings of city government and gain hands-on experience working in politics, legislative organizing, and policy formation. The Intern will support the Executive Director in furthering local policy and legislation, executing budgetary responsibilities, and other office management tasks as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research, track and advance Caucus’ policy agenda priorities.
  • Assist in planning and execution of annual Caucus budget hearings.
  • Coordinate between and communicate with Members’ offices on shared priorities and updates.
  • Engage external stakeholders and partners in crafting and executing policy agenda.
  • Aid in the planning of rallies, advocacy events and Caucus meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Self-starter and have the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage several projects at once.
  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate studies in policy, political science, public administration, or other fields related to government and politics.
  • Availability for at least 15 hours per week.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

New York City residency required within 90 days of appointment.
