Lead Landscape Architect (Architecture)

Hamilton Anderson is seeking to hire a Lead Landscape Architect(Architecture) who is ready and eager to build a strong and collaborative team!

Position Title: Lead Landscape Architect (Architecture)

Status: Full-time, Salaried, Exempt from overtime pay

Location: Hybrid; On-site at Detroit office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays

Reports To: Director of Operations

Direct Reports: Landscape Architects and Landscape Designers, as hired

Education and Experience

  • Professional degree from Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB) accredited program.
  • Licensed to practice landscape architecture and ability to be certified with Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards.
  • A Minimum of 8 years professional experience.
  • LEED Accredited Professional, preferred.

Technical Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of landscape architecture and landscape architectural principles and techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of urban, environmental and master planning principles and techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of architecture and architectural principles and techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering systems relating to design coordination and implementation.
  • Advanced knowledge of building or construction materials, their uses and relative values and construction methods.
  • Advanced working knowledge of specifications.
  • Advanced knowledge of federal and state building codes and zoning ordinances.
  • Advanced knowledge of site element related detailing.

Project Management:

  • Supervise the work production identifying design requirements, project budget, schedule and team.
  • Maintain collaboration and project goal with lead project designer.
  • Maintain leadership role with the technical and financial aspects of all site projects.
  • Plan, organize and manage the production of contract documents including markups and owner/review comments and ensure that such are incorporated as necessary.
  • Plan and coordinate the work and hours of junior team member team members.
  • Actively participate in design review quality process; ensure design reviews are scheduled and conducted as required.
  • Actively participate in document quality process; ensure working drawings and specifications are thoroughly and completely reviewed prior to the bidding period.
  • Ensure that the work being performed adheres to HAA quality standards by following the HAA established quality procedures.
  • Ensure that all technical design changes that are approved comply with the client’s standards, systems, procedures and objectives.
  • Certify project contract document quality and completeness with signature and State issued seal.
  • Lead and manage diverse and complex site projects with responsibility for project success - measured by profitability, design quality, client satisfaction, schedule compliance, client budget, scope of work, harmonious team management and firm contribution.
  • Confirm client project scope of work and receive signed client approvals at each phase of work.
  • Establish project work plans and procedures for each phase of the project and arrange for assignment of project personnel.

Leadership and Team Operations

  • Responsible for professional and Team Development.
  • Responsible for reporting and adjusting Team billability.
  • Responsible for encouraging a positive, inclusive and collaborative Team Culture.
  • Responsible for tracking and approving team weekly timecards.
  • Responsible for consistent coaching, mentoring and the completion of performance evaluations.
  • Leading recruiting efforts along with Human Resources for the Landscape Architecture Team.

Business Development:

  • Work with HAA Marketing to lead Landscape business development with preparation of letter proposals, RFQs, marketing materials and marketing presentations / interviews.
  • Stay abreast of business, market and industry trends and information to identify business opportunities.
  • Complete and/or contribute to the preparation of letter proposals, RFQs and marketing materials and assists

Operations Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct work utilizing independent judgment in the evaluation, selection and adaptation of standard professional regulations, techniques and procedures.
  • Partner with Architectural Director and Teams with operations, business development and projects.
  • Maintain leadership role in the financial and technical aspects of all office projects and operations.
  • Foster teamwork - Provide motivational support to enhance team commitment to their projects.
  • Mentor team members to achieve professional development goals and enhance their capabilities.
  • Build collaborative relationships by developing, maintaining and strengthening partnerships with others inside and outside HAA.
  • Support innovation and organizational changes needed to improve HAA’s overall effectiveness and profitability.
  • Actively participate in the interview process of potential candidates for employment positions.
  • Work inclusively with diverse team member, clients and consultants to establish and maintain effective working relationship.
  • Marketing Coordinator and project managers with the preparation of marketing presentations.
