Job Duties:

Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center (WWRC) provides people with disabilities comprehensive, individualized services to realize optimal personal independence and employment. The Residential Services Department of the Campus Life Division is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for all consumers, staff, and visitors at WWRC. Residential Services Department staff are responsible for providing a comfortable learning environment through targeted supports and interventions for residential consumers that maximize the opportunity to succeed at WWRC and as independent citizens. The Campus Life Division provides relevant programs, classes, experiences, and services to enable consumers to achieve successful employment and optimal independence.

We are seeking a Campus Life Associate - Dorm - #WWRW0066 to engage with clients and other rehabilitation team members to create a safe, clean, and supportive residential/recreational experience throughout the entire Campus Life Division environment, promoting positive social, interpersonal and self-management skills. Through on-going residential/recreational environment engagement with Campus Life Associates, each client will be given the opportunity to explore, learn, and practice needed skills to enhance relevant personal independence to promote vocational success.

This position requires driving a state vehicle and occasionally transporting clients.

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:


Knowledge/Experience:

  • Valid VA Driver’s License required.
  • Knowledge of theory and techniques utilized in behavior modification, crisis intervention and problem solving.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality and boundary issues.
  • Knowledge of safety awareness in a residential/dormitory setting.
  • Knowledge of the recreation hall environment for coverage as needed.

     

Skills/Abilities:

  • Skills in assessing individual and group needs and ability to plan and implement programs to meet those needs.
  • Good oral and written communication, computer and organization/time management skills.
  • Ability to relate positively to people with disabilities and knowledge of disabilities served.
  • Ability to foster a safe, clean and supportive environment promoting positive social, interpersonal and self-management skills.
  • Encouraging opportunities to learn needed skills to promote and enhance personal independence.
  • Ability to assess environmental factors and safety hazards while conducting day to day operations.
  • Ability to foster the interdisciplinary team approach.

Additional Considerations:

  • Training or experience in health and human service-related field working with persons with disabilities, particularly in a therapeutic residential and/or recreational setting.
  • Recreational training or experience and/or certification(s) such as: CTRS, Fitness Instruction Certification, Lifeguarding, Coaching (team or individual).


Special Instructions:

  • This position is designated to provide first aid, CPR and AED only as a collateral duty to routine work assignments, responding solely to injuries resulting from workplace incidents, generally at the location where the incident occurred, until emergency personnel arrive on the scene. The incumbent understands that pre-exposure hepatitis B vaccination is not being provided, but that post-exposure hepatitis B vaccination will be provided, and they will complete annual blood borne pathogens training in accordance with the OSHA standard.
  • This has been designated a sensitive position under Va. Code § 2.2-1201.1.
  • A fingerprint-based criminal history check will be required of the finalist candidate.
  • The selected candidate must complete a Statement of Personal Economic Interests as a condition of employment (Va. Code § 2.2-3114.
