Promotions/Social Media Student Coordinator

Title: Promotions/Social Media Student Coordinator - Center for Native American Studies

Basic Function and Responsibility: 

Assist the NMU Center for Native American Studies (CNAS) with specific tasks related to event and academics promotion and social media campaigns. Assist with overall daily office needs for the CNAS including answering phones, filing documents, copying, organizing, and other assigned tasks. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Assist the CNAS office team with day-to-day office operations
  2. Assist CNAS office team with internal and external communications (email, phone, etc)
  3. Create social media campaigns relevant to the work of the CNAS
  4. Assist CNAS in developing trans-disciplinary relationships 
  5. Maintain an events page and calendar 
  6. Coordinate with NASA and Advisor to assist with promotion of NASA programming
  7. Take photographs and maintain image filing system in an organized and accessible manner
  8. Assist CNAS Director with branding of Anishinaabe News Zine 
  9. Assist CNAS Academic Department Head and Faculty with social media promotions of courses and academic programming 
  10. Attend trainings as required 
  11. Adhere to the policies and student employee expectations as required
  12. Complete other duties or tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualifications: 

  1. Work-study required
  2. NMU student in good academic standing
  3. Demonstrated experience with working independently 
  4. Strong written and oral communication skills
  5. Strong organizational skills
  6. Free from any social probation imposed through the University’s judicial process at the time of application, and remain free of any probationary status

Additional Desired Qualifications: 

  1. Previous experience working with office support and assistance
  2. Knowledge of tribal nations in the Great Lakes region
  3. Experience working with social media campaigns
  4. Knowledge of Native American studies of familiarity with Anishinaabe language
