Part-time Clerk 23

The City of Lansing is seeking candidates for a Part-time Clerk 23 position within the Parks & Recreation Department. This clerical support opportunity is specific to individuals who operate in the mastery knowledge of general office and clerical support procedures.  As front line representative for the community center, you will handle responding to a high volume of youth and adult community center visitors both over the phone and in person, as well as the facilitation of program registration and cash handling transactions when coming in contact with the general public and City employees.  If joining a group of professionals who thrive in the community-centered environment of the City of Lansing Parks & Recreation Department sounds appealing, we encourage you to apply.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Balances cash drawer at beginning and end of work schedule.
  • Performs a wide range of clerical and support services at a City Community Center.
  • Makes weekly deposits to the City of Lansing Treasury Department.
  • Serves as the community center’s 1st point of contact for providing a wide range of information to youth and adults in person and over the phone.
  • Makes referrals to patrons as required.
  • Opens and assists with building coverage during community center programmer absences.
  • Prepares letters, memorandums, invoices, vouchers, schedules, reports, forms, and other documents utilizing MS Office software.
  • May occasionally assist in the creation of flyers and brochures for Parks & Recreation promotional programs.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in proofreading related Parks & Recreation documentation to ensure accuracy.
  • Collects revenue for fees utilizing Rec-Trac computer software to generate receipts.
  • Creates and maintains department files.
  • Receives and processes mail.
  • Secures and confirms reservations for class activities and room reservations utilizing the activity and facility reservation software program.

The ideal candidate must possess:

  • High School Diploma or GED AND
  • One (1) year of general clerical experience WITH proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office software to include MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Publisher
  • Cash handling experience is required
  • Exceptional customer service ability is preferred
  • Must be able to be placed under the terms of the City of Lansing’s blanket bond
