Intern, Test Automation

The Iridium Internship Program is an opportunity for students to be a part of the Iridium teams shaping the future of satellite communications. As an Intern, you’ll begin making an impact on real projects from day one! Come prepared to grow, develop, and learn alongside a team and the leaders of our company. The Iridium Internship program is a 12-week program that runs from May 27, 2025 to August 15, 2025. During the program, interns will have the opportunity to provide valuable support to an Iridium department on a project or important work assignment. Interns will also be provided an opportunity to engage with senior leadership and fellow interns via regular engagement activities. Interns will participate in an end of internship presentation, where we ask them to reflect on their summer internships and present a summary of what they have learned and accomplished.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Work with a team of hardware and software engineers
  • Learn how we do test automation
  • Take a goal or goals, collaborate on approaches to address it
  • Implement a solution, to attain or move toward the goal
  • Present the solution, findings, and next steps to the team

What You’ll Do:

  • Review tickets of work to be done.
  • Discuss approaches with a mentor.
  • Work the ticket, including addressing questions and comments.
  • Put your changes into running systems and see their results.

Skills You’ll Obtain:

  • Real-world experience in chosen field of interest and related topics through multiple hands-on projects
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Team-based software engineering / How to collaborate with SMEs
  • Knowledge of development tools (e.g. JIRA, GitLab, Ansible) 
  • Knowledge of test equipment (e.g. power measurement, signal generators, vector analyzer)
  • Time management
  • Familiarity with satellite networks, with a focus on transceivers

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and professional demeanor
  • Familiarity with automated testing
  • Experience coding in any imperative language and a willingness to program in Python
  • Comfortable using Linux and Windows
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Outlook
  • Basic familiarity with electronics
  • A desire to learn about new hardware

Things You Must Bring to the Table:

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • Must be currently enrolled in a bachelor's or graduate degree program at an accredited academic institution
    • Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related major preferred.
  • US Citizenship is required
  • Must be able to work in person
