R&D Engineering Technician

R&D Technician

Summary:

Advanced Cooling Technologies, Inc. (ACT) has an opening for an Engineering Technician to support research & development (R&D) of diversified and innovative technologies. We routinely develop custom solutions for customers in the aerospace, military, energy, medical, and industrial sectors.  This development extends from initial design, manufacturing of prototypes, running experiments and collecting data, and testing in the field. An R&D Engineering Technician plays a crucial role in supporting this process by providing technical expertise, performing experiments, collecting data, carrying out various tasks, and providing feedback and suggestions. This position requires independent work while simultaneously working and communicating closely with multiple engineers and technicians.  We are looking for passionate and goal-orientated talents who are willing to grow with our flourishing R&D group located in Lancaster, PA.

    • Thermo-radiative Cells for Thermal to Electric Power Conversion in Deep Space
    • High-Temperature Alkali Metal Heat Pipes
    • Vortex Phase Separators and Heat Exchangers for Zero-g and Variable Orientation Fluid Management
  • Energy-Water Nexus
    • Dropwise Condensation and Phase Change Materials for Power Plant Dry Cooling
    • Nanofluid Solar Receivers and Nucleating Agents for Desalination Applications
  • Electronics Cooling
    • High Heat Flux Electronic Cooling Using Heat Pipes, Vapor Chambers, and Pumped Two-Phase Systems

    • Multi-scale and Advanced Modeling Techniques for Predicting Corrosion, Crack Fatigue, and Material Performance Under Harsh Conditions

  • Reacting Flow
    • Non-catalytic fuel reforming, super-adiabatic combustion, ultra-lean combustion
    • Advanced incinerator, burner, and combustor  
    • Non-thermal plasma synthesis, plasma assisted engine ignition
    • Nanoparticle enhanced liquid fuel, solid fuel, and propellent  

Requirements:

  • Certificate from a technical school or a minimum of 3 years of related experience
  • Ability to operate hand tools (drills, drivers, etc.) and basic shop tools (press, mill, lathe, etc.)
  • Maintain an effective working pace to help the team complete projects on-time
  • Ability to stay flexible and easily redirect efforts in a fast-paced R&D environment
  • Hands-on fabrication and troubleshooting of assembly processes and test stands
  • Ability to contribute to problem-solving for product and prototype manufacturing
  • Detailed note-taking of assembly steps and testing records

Preferences (Some or all of the following):

  • Experience with combustion and plasma systems
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or other CAD software
  • Experience with soldering, brazing, and welding
  • Experience with machining processes, including milling, turning, CNC machining, and precision measurement techniques
  • Familiar with data acquisition and analysis
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, LabView, Arduino, or similar
  • Experience with vacuum systems
  • Experience with refrigeration systems
  • Familiar with electrical system and schematic design
  • Basic knowledge in electrical, mechanical, chemical, and thermal engineering principles
  • Passion for learning new things
  • Strong ability to work, troubleshoot, and solve problem independently
  • Excellent communication skills
