Intern - Financial Accounting Services (FAS)

Your education is just the beginning – you’ll become an active member of our Financial Shared Services team located in Pittsburgh, PA. During our 12-week internship program, you’ll tackle real-world challenges through impactful assignments, and work alongside our industry changemakers. 

The Intern – Financial Accounting Services (FAS) will utilize Excel and various other tools to perform a variety of tasks with FAS such as account reconciliations and journal entries. 

Intern Impact Project: Assist with the Orbit Implementation  

The Intern – Financial Accounting Services (FAS) (Orbit Testing) will collaborate on our conversion from Discover to Orbit.  We currently use Discover to query data from the GL, we are moving to a new tool “Orbit”.  You would assist by learning the new tool and testing the reports to confirm parameters and accuracy. Clear communication to the Orbit Team will be required regarding testing status and issues with the reports.

 A Day in the Life at Howmet…

In addition to your impact project work, you’ll have the opportunity to: 

• Attend meetings with the leadership team

• Gain exposure to lease accounting

  • Reconcile lease balance sheet accounts
  • Analyze standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to the process
  • Assist with the leases in evergreen status
  • Ad Hoc leasing requests

•  Use the accounting systems in connection with monthly general ledger financial close and consolidation.

•  Assist with ad hoc projects related to the GL 

•  Assist with GL location support

  • Preparing quarterly files for balance sheet reconciliation reviews with location
  • Performs monthly tasks related to journal entry bookings and account reconciliation completions.

• Analyze business operations and identifying key performance issues 

• Apply finance/accounting principles to real-life scenarios 

 

Your Education, Skills, and Experience: 

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics with an expected graduation date in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026. 

• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or equivalent 

• Demonstrated internship, work, research, or extracurricular participation

• Involved with at least 1 extracurricular activity

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office

• Interns must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. 

Compensation for this internship opportunity ranges between $20- $22 per hour. (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors such as education, experience, skillset, and/or location).

A relocation stipend in the amount of $3,000 will be provided to students located 50+ miles from the physical location of the internship.
