Rangeland Management Specialist

We're hiring several Rangeland Management Specialists to support planning, development, and implementation of soil, water, and resource conservation projects at field office locations throughout Montana. You'll serve as a rangeland consultant and advisor to ranchers, farmers, and landowners within your assigned area of responsibility. assisting them in making resource inventories, obtaining planning information, identifying conservation opportunities, and implementing plans for their specific land and operations objectives. 

 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Gathering rangeland, natural resource, and engineering data for developing complete ranch conservation plans. 
  • Assisting local farmers, ranchers, and landowners in making resource inventories, obtaining planning information, and finding conservation opportunities.
  • Assembling conservation implementation guidelines for vegetative and structural practices. 
  • Utilizing financial contracting and GIS software to document and manage conservation investments and technical assistance requests. 
  • Supporting NRCS team members in the development of comprehensive resource management plans that support specific land and operations objectives.
  • Working closely with cooperators to implement plans, determine successes and failures of established practices, and providing assistance in establishment of supplemental practices.
  • Monitoring grazing management plans as they are implemented to document changes to plant communities, making adjustments as needed.
  • Ensuring forage resources are not degraded by balancing utilization with forage production. 
  • Supporting local NRCS staff and leadership at meetings of various rural, urban, and tribal interest groups to build positive relationships and advance conservation efforts within the local community.
