Position Summary 

 The Fitness Manager will ensure patron safety, maintain equipment, assist in planning and execution of programming and events for SRWC members and students, provide quality wellness services, and foster the delivery of excellent patron service through always demonstrating exceptional leadership skills.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists Manager, Fitness and Wellness with hiring, training, and developing Fitness Managers during the processes of application review, interviewing, onboarding, and daily shifts.
  • Be knowledgeable on available wellness services (EPD, PFA, Training, Group Ex., etc.)
  • Attend and lead delegated segments in staff meetings
  • Inspect and sign off on maintenance checklists for SRWC fitness areas
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on fitness floor equipment
  • Plan wellness and fitness programs or events and participate in facility set up/ tear down during said events
  • Coordinates emergency procedures for the fitness area
  • Conduct wellness services with quality customer service and results
  • Provide building tours and equipment orientation tours as requested
  • Enforces SRWC policies while maintaining professionalism
  • Report incidents to professional staff accordingly
  • Displays proficiency in the operation of basic computer skills as well as CSI, Brightspace, and Connect2, Microsoft Office software
  • Assume all other duties and projects assigned

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be an eligible student at The University of Akron for the duration of the semester in which you are employed.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and will obtain a BLS certification if needed.
  • Knowledge of Student Recreation and Wellness Services general policies and procedures, including both the fitness floor and wellness suite services (EPD, PFA, Training, Group Ex., etc.)
  • Attend mandatory monthly in-service trainings/meetings for Managers and floor staff
  • Demonstrated knowledge proper equipment usage and exercise techniques
  • Must possess the following qualities:
  • Leadership (modeling, delegation, inclusive, etc.)
  • Approachable and professional
  • Strong interpersonal skills (listening & conflict resolution)
  • Willingness to be a team player

 

Hours Scheduled: Approximately 5 - 20 hours per week        Pay:  $10.70/hour
