2025 Investment Banking Intern Chicago, IL Generalist

Role Description

Chartwell’s 9-week Investment Banking internship program is designed to provide exposure to the investment banking industry through strategic advisory and financing-related transactions across a breadth of client industries. Interns will act as junior analysts on projects and work alongside execution teams on a variety of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, private placements of debt and equity, debt refinancings, leveraged buyouts, and more. Specific analytical tasks may include:

  • Preparation of company profiles/teasers
  • Historical and pro forma client company financial analysis
  • Public company peer group market analysis
  • Merger and acquisition market peer group analysis
  • Discounted cash flow and leveraged buyout analyses
  • Industry research
  • Report writing and presentation preparation
  • Marketing support activities
  • Analysis and other such activities as deemed relevant to the firm’s success

In addition to transaction experience, the program includes formal training, networking and social events, community service events, and a capstone project that provide our interns with a unique experience and invaluable look into our culture and the investment banking business. 

Preferred candidates will have a fundamental understanding of valuation theory, methodologies, and applications with a proven track record of working in competitive and fast paced environments.

Essential Job Functions

  • Due diligence analysis and financial modeling
  • Search and analyze public peer companies and M&A transactions across a variety of industries using Capital IQ, Bloomberg, and other financial databases
  • Sort, review, analyze, and develop conclusions from large amounts of economic, market, industry, and company-specific information
  • Work independently on multiple engagements with multiple team members while managing varied responsibilities

Basic Qualifications

  • Junior class ranking in pursuit of a business degree and coursework in corporate finance theories with an anticipated graduation of May 2026
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated experience multitasking with little oversight.
