
Access Technician
Hourly Pay Range: $23.34 - $29.49
The Access Technician is a professional, Bachelor’s level position. The Access Technician provides the first contact for individuals requesting or inquiring about mental health/substance abuse services, and annual contacts to determine the eligibility and need for ongoing care. The Access Technician completes screenings and annual assessments to determine the eligibility and level of care/need for individuals requesting initial, as well as ongoing services at WMCMH. The Access Technician provides triage, level of care authorization/reauthorization, coordination with other providers, disease specific education, follow-up/outreach services to reduce the utilization of higher levels of care, facilitates treatment, enhances compliance with the established provider network, encourages and empowers each person regarding their care, and facilitates individual/family early detection and intervention
In addition, the Access Technician is responsible for Utilization Management (UM) functions in order to actively manage the use of behavioral healthcare resources and to promote efficiency in the delivery of high-quality care. Other duties may include completing retro-reviews on past psychiatric hospitalizations, completing Continued Stay Reviews and Discharge Planning for high acuity psychiatric and SUD placements, and other duties as assigned. The Access Technician may be required to serve on the crisis stabilization team, and provide crisis stabilization service as scheduled, which could include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Requirements:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a human services field, such as a social worker (LBSW, LLBSW), educator from an accredited program*, registered nurse (RN), physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech language pathology, audiologist, registered dietician, therapeutic recreation, behavior analyst, child development, counseling/guidance, criminal justice, health administration, health education, music therapy, psychology, sociology, child welfare and protection, juvenile justice, gerontology, or rehabilitation counseling. If not currently licensed, certified, or registered in one of these professions, the individual must be eligible and willing to apply for and obtain such licensure, certification, or registration immediately per the guidelines for the profession. (*Educators are not required to retain their teaching certification in order to be considered qualified for their position.)
In addition, if the individual is eligible, it is required to obtain certification for one of the following: Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, or a Certified Co-Occurring Disorders Professional – Diplomate through the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP) or enter into a developmental plan to obtain certification following the requirements of MCBAP.
If not in a profession listed above, the individual must have been grandfathered into the position by MDCH prior to 1/1/08 or provided with a waiver specific to the individual and the position by MDCH
2. Must meet the Medicaid provider qualifications for services for the specific program: be a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP), Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP), and/or a Children’s Mental Health Professional (CMHP) or must be eligible to obtain the designation.
3. Must be credentialed and privileged to practice at WMCMH by the Executive Committee of the Clinical Oversight Committee of WMCMH.
4. Must possess a valid driver’s license and provide own transportation to and from meetings and activities at varying work locations including all agency locations in Lake, Mason, and Oceana Counties.
5. Must be certified in First Aid and CPR or obtain training after hire
6. Lived experiences with mental illness/developmental disabilities/substance use disorders are valued.
