Planning and Environmental Specialist

Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. Promotion to the full performance level is neither guaranteed nor implied and will be based solely on your ability to satisfactorily perform the work of the position, existing work at the higher grade level, and recommendation by the position's supervisor.

The specialist ensures that the proper formatting, guidelines, and procedures are used in the preparation of NEPA documents. The specialist works with more senior planning specialists and serves on interdisciplinary teams (IDT) that are organized as needed to work on specific NEPA document components. The specialist is responsible for coordination, scheduling, outreach, and out-year planning. The specialist reviews NEPA documents and coordinates with the IDT. Working closely with more senior planners and resource specialists, reviews environmental analysis documents prepared in the Field Office to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Assists project lead in determining level of detail, scope of analysis, and quality of the document being produced. Ensures that the analysis is clear and consistent and makes corrections as needed.
