Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducts fundamental and applied research as well as leads contractual research, exploratory, and advanced development programs to enhance the current state-of-the-art nondestructive evaluation and inspection (NDE/I) techniques and material state sensing using electromagnetic approaches.
  • Conducts electromagnetic based NDE/I experiments to characterize and quantify defects/damage/material properties/material microstructure (e.g. local elastic or electromagnetic properties, dimensional measurements) in advanced aerospace materials.
  • Develops and applies modeling and analysis approaches to include multi-physics modeling, signal processing, and enhanced data analytics to develop algorithms for forward simulations and inversion of NDE/I to understand and quantify the material state.
  • Develops and applies enhanced electromagnetic materials characterization techniques to evaluate the material state.
  • Identify innovative electromagnetic approaches to determine the material state through collaboration with academia, industry, and other government agencies.  Identify and pursue collaborative research opportunities from both internal and external funding mechanisms.
  • Define near- and far-term NDE/I S&T goals to address material state sensing approaches that address applications with complexity and variability present in Department of the Air Force (DAF) systems in collaboration with DoD and industry stakeholders.
  • Serve as Subject-Matter Expert to DAF weapon system program offices and other government agencies.
  • Write contractual technical documentation, purchase requests, and evaluate technical and cost proposals. Ensure satisfactory technical progress and fiscal performance of awarded contracts.
