OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH SPECIALIST

The Occupational Safety and Health Specialist is responsible for investigating complaints received or initiated by the CSEA alleging violations of the Safety and Health Standards as well as the circumstances and conditions resulting in work place accidents causing public employee injury or fatalities.

In addition to field investigations, incumbents prepare comprehensive reports as require, advise members of their rights and responsibilities under the Safety Law, prepare material for and participate in safety educational programs for CSEA members, provide advice and assistance to locals with OSHA related problems, and perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience in a position or positions involving work of an investigatory or inspection
nature, or the development of and participation in group training programs, or direct public contact work and/or knowledge of safety and health standards.
OR
The possession of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university, in a related field.
OR
A combination of an Associate’s Degree and one year of experience in the above.

NOTE: Candidate must have a valid New York State driver's license and have a car available for
business use.

Incumbents are required to live within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned region at a location determined acceptable by the Director of Occupational, Safety and Health.
