MIT Beaver Works - Fall back to bASICS Teaching Assistant

MIT Beaver Works is seeking Fall teaching assistants to contribute to the Beaver Works Summer Institute (BWSI) back to bASICS program.  BWSI is a world class educational outreach program that challenges high school students across the country. Back to bASICS provides students the fundamentals of semiconductor theory, logic gates and then apply that knowledge to leverage the open source Skywater 130nm process. For more information on the BWSI program visit: https://beaverworks.ll.mit.edu/CMS/bw/bwsi.

TA’s will spend 8 weeks in the fall teaching, guiding, and advising young high-school students.  The purpose of the class is to help students with the prerequisite materials of the Basics of ASICs course. The fall course runs October 12th to December 7th 2024, Saturdays 11am-2 pm EST virtually.

Tasks for the BWSI Basics of ASICs Fall Outreach program include the following:

  • Present lecture materials and lead seminars for NAND2Tetris Program
  • Teach the basics of Boolean Logic and Logic Gates
  • Teach the concept of Hardware Description Language culminating in students constructing an Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU)

 

Job Requirements

  • Previous completion of NAND2Tetris program or equivalent

Desired Skills or Experiences:

  • Prior experience with STEM outreach or tutoring/coaching/leading high school students
  • Experience with eFabless/Google/Skywater, IEEE SSCS PICO, Tiny Tapeout or other ASIC design challenges
  • Prior experience with Verilog or VHDL
