What You’ll Do 

As a Field Service Engineer, you'll quickly solve high-value problems for customers. By collaborating closely with our customers onsite to install, maintain, and upgrade Applied Materials equipment, you’ll make a significant impact on ensuring peak performance and deliver exceptional service, while becoming an integral part of Applied Materials' diverse and dynamic field team.  

 

We empower our Field Service Engineers through comprehensive on-the-job training and the use of advanced digital tools and immersive technology, including Augmented Reality (AR) to support the systems and processes that underpin everyday semiconductor chip production. About Our Program 

As a member of the Field Service Engineer Program, you will participate in a rotational learning environment where you will receive FSE certification through hands-on equipment training on Applied’s broad portfolio of products. The Field Service Engineer Program promotes a broad, career-growth foundation. Your quick exposure to Applied Materials’ suite of digital tools and technologies, customer challenges, and project presentations will set you up for success to serve as an FSE in one of Applied’s customer sites located in North America.  

 

Role Responsibilities:  

Collaborate with Senior Field Service Engineers in installing, maintaining, and upgrading customer equipment 

Use digital analytics for troubleshooting  

Apply basic diagnostic techniques to assess equipment and address technical issues, with guidance from Senior Field Service Engineers 

Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydro-electrical, and gas systems (training provided) 

Coordinate and communicate directly with customers 

 

Minimum Qualifications:  

Graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in data science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing, aerospace engineering or a related field. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

1–2 years of work experience in customer/field service support, or a related technical field 

Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics 

Experience diagnosing and resolving basic technical challenges 

Basic mechanical aptitude with pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum, or thermodynamics 

Familiarity with hand tools and their appropriate usage, including digital multimeters 

Effective written and verbal communication skills 

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint  

Possession of a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a passport [Remove as appropriate] 

Able to meet all on-site requirements, including safety, environmental guidelines, and COVID-19 protocols 

 

Physical Requirements:  

Various physical movements such as bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, reaching, climbing stairs and ladders, and extended walking and standing 

Ability to lift up to 35lbs, where robotics and automation are absent 

Ability to distinguish between colors 

Ability to operate hand and power tools 

Ability to work in confined spaces 

Ability to work in a noise-prone environment (with consideration for noise sensitivity) 

Wear personal protective equipment such as coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses, gloves, respirators, chemical aprons, and face shields, particularly in clean room settings 

Flexibility for rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required by customer needs 

Occasional travel for training and to alternate customer sites, including international travel
