Diversify Internship

The Diversify Internship program provides interns with an opportunity to learn and perform various work assignments, gaining hands-on experience in the field of parks & recreation. Job duties vary based on the program area and include both administrative and field experience, which may include interacting with staff across the district and patrons.

This fall, there is one Diversify position open for an Event Operations position at the Jenkins Estate.  THPRD Jenkins Estate is looking for an event operations intern to work 20-25 hours per week.  Hours may vary and are based on program need. Part-time variable (PT) employees work an average of less than 20 hours per week and may work less than 1,560 hours on an annual basis. The Event Operations Intern will gain valuable hands-on experience in the event planning and management industry. This role will involve assisting with various aspects of event setup, hosting, and administrative tasks.

This internship is designed to provide equal opportunities for students interested in parks and recreation careers, with a focus on fostering an environment that is inclusive and representative of the communities we serve.  

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Event Setup: Assist with the setup and breakdown of event spaces, including tables, chairs, decorations, and equipment.
  • Event Hosting: Support event hosts by greeting guests, providing information, and ensuring a smooth event flow.
  • Administrative Tasks: Assist with administrative duties such as data entry, filing, and scheduling.
  • Event Planning: Conducting and Guiding Venue Tours of the Historic Jenkins Estate
  • Learn from Experienced Professionals: Observe and learn from experienced event professionals, gaining valuable insights into the industry.
  • Perform a wide variety of work duties and responsibilities based on assignment, academic coursework, and/or degree program.
  • Conduct research and analysis; prepares project reports, progress summaries, spreadsheets, and other written materials.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of program materials and program area activities.
  • Schedules and facilitates meetings with staff, (which may be indoors, outdoors and/or virtually) as needed to accomplish project goals.
  • Perform data entry. Prepare and/or proofread a variety of forms, letters, flyers, promotional materials, etc.
  • Research policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards; identifies opportunities for improvement and makes recommendations.
  • Assist in promoting positive public relations and customer service for various programs, services, or activities.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and workshops.
  • Participate in various phases of a planned training and evaluation internship program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license with good driving record and at least 18 years of age for identified internships.
  • Bilingual is preferred but not required. (The district provides a 3% bilingual pay premium for positions where language skills are utilized!)

Education and Experience

Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that would likely provide the applicant with the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:


Currently enrolled, have been enrolled in the past year, or will enroll in the next year in a college-level class, certificate, or degree program (required). Previous experience in internship focus area desired (not required).
