Congressional Intern - District Office
Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-04) is now accepting applications on a rolling basis for his Winter/Spring 2025 Internship Program in his Holland District office for January through April. Interviews will take place on a rolling basis. Please apply through Congressman Huizenga's website at huizenga.house.gov.
Successful applicants will have a positive and friendly attitude, a willingness to learn new skills, an interest in constituent services, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs.
Duties:
- Front office duties: sorting mail, data entry, greeting visitors/meetings
- Answer and screen telephone calls for the Member and other staff members and take messages
- Ensure constituent casework is distributed to appropriate district staff in an efficient and effective manner
- Assistance with constituent casework, researching legislation, database creation, and upkeep
- Write responses to constituent letters relating to casework and community outreach
- Assisting press clips
- Attending hearings and providing memorandums to the appropriate staff member.
- Organize workload to prioritize tasks in accordance with varying deadlines and to ensure work is completed in an efficient and effective manner
- Monitor, screen, and refer cases to other government entities when appropriate, i.e. state/local offices
- Provide assistance to staff where requested on legislative, policy or communications needs
- Perform other administrative and legislative duties as assigned
- Congressional Internships are often fast-paced, high-stress, and involve quick thinking.
- Congressional Interns are an integral part of the staff. Successful completion of related duties allows other staff to assist with other district and constituent matters and to aid Congressman Huizenga.
- Successful interns will carry themselves with high levels of professionalism, deliver excellent customer service, and come to the office excited to work.
The office will accommodate hours based on the applicant's class schedule or a second job.
