Analyzer Technician

Analyzer Technician

The Analyzer Technician is a student hired by the Academic Director of the MLS program. This student is responsible for the routine daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of the Abbott Architect Analyzers housed in Greenquist L124. The Technician will ensure that all reagent orders are made in a timely manner. The Analyzer Technician is required to complete all appropriate health and safety trainings as required by the College of Natural and Health Sciences. 

 

Schedule

The Analyzer Technician is required to provide routine service to the analyzers at least three days a week. Weekly maintenance must be conducted once per week. Specific maintenance must also be performed once a month. The student is allowed to perform maintenance runs anytime during the day from 7:00am to 9:00pm Monday through Friday, or 7:00am-5:00pm on Saturday, or 11:00am-8:00pm on Sunday. It is recommended that the Analyzer Technician develop a regular schedule. 

 

 

Duties

  • 250 hours per academic year (including winter break and spring break)
  • Analyzer Technician will perform only those tasks that are listed by the Academic Director.
  • Undergo rigorous training by prior Analyzer Technician and Abbott professionals
  • Conduct thorough maintenance and calibration protocols required for optimal functioning of the analyzers
  • Assist Abbott Service Engineers with access to the analyzers and information regarding troubles
  • Train other students on using the analyzers
  • Assist Instructors with course-based analyzer activities. Provide Instructor with reasonable availability for students to access the lab.
  • Perform demonstrations of both analyzers for visitors. This might include night and weekend events.
  • Perform demonstrations for Science Night and other open-house events

Qualifications:

  • Good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher;
  • Ability to express verbally what is seen in a descriptive manner;
  • Able to recognize problems with the analyzers and communicate those problems with the Academic Director or with the Abbott Liaison.
  • Responsible, professional and dependable;
  • Ability to follow multi-step directions;
  • Previous experience in and knowledge of the subject area preferred but not required.
