Winter Co-op/Drug Substance Development Process Engineering & PAT

Department Description:

Process Engineering & PAT (Drug Substance Development) designs and scales up pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. Engineers in this department are responsible for evaluating the manufacturing unit operations associated with the design and scale-up of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), such as chemical reactions, distillations, separations, and isolations.

Job Description:

The Process Engineering Co-op will develop their engineering expertise with Senior Staff to support the manufacturing unit operations for API and drug substance intermediates. Day to day activities will include evaluating and characterizing chemical reactions, distillations, extractions, and/or crystallization protocols. This position includes experimental planning, hands-on laboratory work, and data analysis. The ideal candidate will assist in scientific contributions towards the progression on Development Projects as directed by Process Engineering leadership team and possess areas of familiarity in the manufacture of small-molecule pharmaceuticals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the 6-month co-op (January ~ June 2025).
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous laboratory experience in chemical or process-related engineering
  • Demonstrated experience working in an experimental laboratory environment
  • Basic understand of pharmaceutical practices and operations

Benefits:

  • While GSK embraces a flexible work environment, we do require certain positions to be onsite. Candidates who are hired for an on-site role or hybrid role, and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location, are eligible for relocation stipend. This is a one-time payment to help offset housing & relocation expenses. Please refer to the position details for the requirements of each position.
