2025 Summer Internship (U.S.) Automation Engineering Intern

Bechtel’s internship program was created to cultivate real-life industry interest based on hands-on experience.  Many new university graduate hires began their careers at Bechtel as a summer intern.  Locations will vary based on project needs and may include Houston, TX, Reston, VA, or various project sites.

Engineering Automation interns work in multi-disciplinary teams and provide support to Mechanical, Electrical, Control Systems, and Plant Design disciplines within Engineering and cross-functional support to Procurement and Construction.

Typical Activities of the Engineering Automation Team

  • Assisting with setting up, installing, supporting, configuring, and implementing automation software tools.
  • Investigating and resolving problems and providing information about the software and systems to the users.
  • Customizing applications, preparing user guides, and delivering training materials based on customer needs.
  • Developing work plans to accomplish assigned tasks within established budgets and schedules.

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a four-year Bachelor of Science degree program in Civil/Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, computer science or relevant Engineering and/or Information Technology (IT) at an accredited college or university.
  • Completed at least one year of undergraduate studies.
  • Possess the eligibility to work and remain in the US without visa sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • Ability and willingness to relocate and/or travel to domestic and/or international project jobsites.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Master of Science degree program in Civil/Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant Engineering and/or Information Technology (IT) at an accredited college or university.
  • Completed relevant coursework with a strong GPA.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
