WORK WITH US – Opportunities in Treasury

Jefferies Corporate Treasury actively manages the firm's funding, liquidity, and capital deployment, by working closely with the firm's business units as well as senior management.  The key objectives of Treasury’s framework is to support the successful execution of our business strategies while ensuring sufficient liquidity through the business cycle and during periods of financial distress.  The department also maintains Jefferies' overall relationships with banks, other creditors, and rating agencies. All functions are performed within the regulatory requirements and the firm's risk objectives.

The core responsibilities managed by the Jefferies Treasury team include:

  • Liquidity Risk Management

Liquidity risk management is largely overseen by the Treasury Analytics Group. The firm's funding and liquidity risk management is centered on measurements of liquidity risk in both market wide and firm specific stresses. Two primary metrics – Maximum Liquidity Outflow and Cash Capital – constitute the core basis for evaluating and managing the firm's liquidity. In addition, the Treasury Analytics Group facilitates weekly reporting of capital and liquidity buffer charges to the businesses, provides daily business unit cash usage figures and daily reports on excess cash / liquidity buffer balances.

  • Capital Planning, Raising & Allocation

Capital management is characterized by an emphasis on Cash Capital and Maximum Liquidity Outflow. While equity is a component of cash capital, the planning for capital needs, raising of the marginal dollar of capital and allocation of capital to business units is principally driven by firm-wide and business unit level cash capital requirements. This incremental capital requirement is met in the longer-term debt markets.

With the equity component of the capital structure and composition, analysis is centered on ensuring the equity is sufficient in the context of the risks (i.e. risk of loss) on the balance sheet, or in each of the business units, as well as the regulatory capital requirements of the firm's principal regulated operating subsidiaries. These regulatory capital needs are met with a combination of equity and subordinated debt.  The capital function also includes monitoring the issuance and maturity of firm debt (medium and long-term funding).

  • Bank Relations, Rating Agencies Relations, and Creditor Relations

The Bank Relations Team is responsible for the management of bank and custodial relationships, including credit and trading relationships.  This team is responsible for the compilation and analysis of MIS reports to assess competitiveness of bank / sub-custodian fees, periodic negotiations of bank fees and the review/remedy of operational inefficiencies as well as the management of the account opening and setup process internally and externally.

The Bank Relations function includes completing bank required forms, KYC requirements and negotiation of legal agreements.  Other core areas managed by Bank Relations is the ongoing maintenance of authorized signatory lists, resolutions and associated corporate documentation, act as the primary internal contact for escalation of bank and/or custodian issues, assist in the completion of new credit related documentation and associated follow ups with business units and banks, and credit marketing.

  • Monitoring and Reporting

Includes monitoring and reporting on Liquidity, Cash Usage, Risk, Balance Sheet, Intraday, and unfunded Commitments.
