International and Global Engagements (IGE) - Storytelling and Graphic Designer

Position Title: International and Global Engagements (IGE) -  Storytelling and Graphic Designer 

Organization: Indiana University School of Social Work (IUSSW) 

Department/Office: International and Global Engagements 

Hourly Wage: $13.25 (Work Study required)

Hours per Week: 10

Supervised by: Director of IGE

Supervises: No one

Term: September-December 2024

 

General Purpose of Position: The work-study student provides digital storytelling and graphic design services to amplify students’ voices, support with PR materials for events, and capture the work of IUSSW’s OIGE. The IGE Digital Storytelling and Graphic Design student works in close partnership with the Director of IGE, Administrative Assistant and Marketing Director, and additional faculty and staff of the IU School of Social Work to develop, plan, coordinate, design, and increase marketing materials pertaining to the IGE ‘s mission. Innovation and creativity are two key values that will guide this work.  

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

(30%) Assist in creating marketing, sharing experiences, technology, and creating imagery in alignment with university standards and that reflect internationalization efforts, diversity in representation. 

(35%) Actively lead, design, and produce digital stories for IGE Marketing efforts. 

(50%) Collaborate with students, staff and faculty across campuses to develop materials promoting events via social media, print, digital signage, and other appropriate mediums in accordance with ADA rules. 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to commit to at least 1 academic year in this position. 
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  • Seniors are NOT eligible to participate in the program. 
  • Experience or familiarity working with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or other design software  
  • Ability to make independent judgments, identify complex problems, and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions that will impact the school and its students, alumni, staff, faculty, and community partners. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and work toward deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities is critical.
  • Ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with other staff. 
  • Ability to engage with social media platforms.
  • Computer proficiency and working knowledge of Microsoft Programs.
  • Perform general labor needed for related events, including set-up and teardown, which may require lifting or manipulating items weighing up to 25 lbs.

During this opportunity, IGE Digital Storytelling and Graphic Design will be able to:

This opportunity is part of the On-Campus Internship Program

This internship is offered as a part of the On-campus Internship Program and aims to connect IUPUI undergraduate freshman, sophomores, and juniors with internships on-campus with faculty and staff in a variety of campus areas/programs. Internships start in August and end in May. Interns will be required to obtain at least one academic credit in the academic year while participating in their internship experience and will have a site visit from the Office of Student Employment during their experience.  On-going coaching and feedback on performance will be provided by internship supervisors according to a strict timeline of the program. Specific internship projects and duties will vary by internship. Students in this program will be required to participate in a public showcase of learning at the end of year to outline their experience as a part of Engaged Learning Week, and will participate in additional development throughout the year. After completing the program, their On-Campus Internship experience will be added to their IUPUI Experiential and Applied Learning Record.
