Position Summary:
A co-op/internship position in Aerotech’s Electrical R&D department offers opportunities in design, analysis, implementation, and testing of our industry-leading motion control hardware. Responsibilities of an electrical/computer engineering co-op/intern include analog and digital circuit design, digital logic/FPGA design using VHDL, and embedded firmware development using C/C++. This position is located at our headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA.
What will your day look like? At Aerotech, you will:
- Gain hands-on experience with real motion control components and cutting-edge technologies
- Work independently under the guidance of upper level engineers
- Collaborate with leading engineers in the field of automation and robotics on a close-knit team
- Test and troubleshoot prototype circuit boards and electronic assemblies used in our motor drives and motion controllers
- Work with PCB layout designers using Altium Designer to make changes to existing circuits or design new sub-circuits within a larger system
- Conduct tests to verify that new firmware features are implemented correctly
- Debug firmware problems found in our motor drives and implement fixes for them
- Make improvements to existing firmware features or develop new sub-modules in collaboration with other engineers
What will separate you from the rest? Experience with:
- Altium Designer PCB design software
- Analog and digital circuit design
- Digital signal processing techniques and feedback control systems
- Embedded software development using C or C++
- FPGA development using the AMD/Xilinx Vivado Design Suite
- Hardware description languages such as VHDL or Verilog
- Object oriented programming with C++
- Software development environments such as Microsoft Visual Studio, Eclipse, or Texas Instruments Code Composer Studio
- Tools such as the Git version control system and Atlassian Jira issue and project tracking software
Minimum Qualifications:
- Eligible students are those currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science (BS) or Master of Science (MS) degree program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field from an ABET accredited college or university
- Currently accepting applications for Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors that plan to attend graduate school
- Must maintain a 3.0 GPA or above.
- Experience using basic electronic test instruments such as a multimeter, oscilloscope, and logic analyzer
- Strong programming skills
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship. Aerotech does not provide US work authorization sponsorship for this position. OPT and CPT visa holders are not eligible for employment if they will need work authorization sponsorship at any time in the future.
