And we’re looking for a Formulation Design & Compounding Co-op!

 

About the position:

This is an exciting opportunity to apply classroom knowledge and learn new skills in the high tech industry.  The Co-op will be an integral member of a team in Materials R&D that designs new polymer composite films used in next generation electronic paper displays.

The opportunity requires applying physics and chemistry knowledge in a hands-on lab environment. Projects will include opportunities to study new dispersion and compounding methods, as well as develop new QC metrics. The Co-op will work with scientists and engineers to design experiments to determine the important process parameters that affect fluid properties for optimal device performance. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compound formulations for pilot coating following formulation worksheets and SOP 
  • Use laboratory equipment such as balances, mixers, sonicators, mills, pumps, and filters 
  • Collect physical and mechanical properties such as tensile strength, modulus, adhesion, cohesion, etc.
  • Create lab-scale coatings for electrical and mechanical testing 
  • Organize and analyze data and share summaries and conclusions with team members 
  • Perform Gauge R&R studies and write SOPs for new measurements and processes 
  • Exhibit safe lab practices at all times 

 

Qualifications:

  • Major in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related field 
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher 
  • Comfortable working in chemical labs 
  • Strong chemical and mechanical intuition 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage own schedule to accomplish tasks in parallel

 

Benefits:

The anticipated base pay for this position is $30-40 per hour, DOE, for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
