Summer 2025 Photojournalism Internship
Every year, The Seattle Times offers a series of paid summer internships to outstanding students eager to build a career in journalism. For 10 weeks, our interns have the privilege to work closely with members of our Pulitzer Prize-winning staff members on a variety of real-world assignments as employees of our established, renowned metropolitan newspaper and website. Next summer, you could be paid to train in your chosen profession at the Northwest’s leading daily news media organization.
Responsibilities:
- Provide photo coverage for a wide range of assignments from news to features, business and sports throughout the Puget Sound area and state of Washington.
- Generate photo and story ideas.
- Engage in regular conversations with your supervisor and other photo editors to learn from their feedback.
- Meet assignment deadlines set by the photo editors.
- Attend newsroom trainings and events per the photo editors and newsroom internship program managers.
Qualifications

- Applicants must be Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors (including graduating Seniors) attending a four-year college or university, or graduate students.
- Applicants must be journalism majors or have a demonstrated commitment to print or online journalism, possess social media skills, and be digitally astute.
- Internship experience at other news organizations is strongly preferred.
- Applicants must have a personal vehicle available to use for the duration of the internship.
- Applicants must furnish their own photo equipment.

- Submit three references familiar with your work (with at least one reference being a current or former manager or supervisor).
- Provide a link to your online portfolio containing 20 to 30 images that include news, features, portraits, sports, at least one photo story and one example of video work.
- Alternatively, you may submit this information as an application file, with any associated links included being accessible and not behind a paywall. You must ensure your file size does not exceed 10 MB – reduce resolution of images, if necessary.
- Deadline: submit your application package by Friday, November 1st, 2024 at 4 p.m. PT.
- Confirmation: You will be notified once your application has been received. Check your file size before submitting. You will not receive a confirmation email if your file size exceeds the 10MB limit.
Compensation: The salary range for this position is $19.97 per hour to $19.97 per hour.
