FWS - Archives Assistant ($10-$15 an hour based on experience)

Applicants must have a Federal Work Study grant in their financial aid package to qualify for this position. The GIS Unit under Facilities Design & Construction has a Federal Work Study position available. This will be an ideal position for a student with an interest in data collection and organization. 

The student will be assisting in the management of the Facilities physical project documents archives which may include scanning, filing, data entry and disposing of paper project documentation.

Skills and Expected Responsibilities

Filing, scanning, and data collection/entry

Organizational skills, detail oriented, clear writing with minimal to no errors, ability to work alone with a small amount of supervision. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Ability to learn new software.

Archive Organization 

  • Assist in the organization or disposal of project documents.
  • Refile documents and drawings to be kept.
  • Scanning project documents to digital archives.
  • Data entry and other clerical work in support of archives.

Primary Purpose of Department

Facilities Design and Construction (FDC) provides overall planning, design, and construction management of both new and renovation capital improvement projects for the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). Through assessment of existing facilities and direction from senior administrative officers, the department manages the budget, design, and construction of these projects. FDC ensures the University obtains what is needed, is of the quality desired, and that projects are completed within the determined time frame and budget. Further, FDC consists of GIS and Archives support to maintain records of past projects and current assets, and infrastructure; and the Office of Space Utilization and Planning, providing oversight in the utilization, allocation, and reporting of space. The department directly interfaces with all university divisions, State Construction Office administrators, UNC System Office administration, and external design firms, contractors, and vendors.
