Construction Project Management Intern

The Construction Project Management Office (CPMO) is looking for a Intern who wants to gain real world project management experience working on public improvement projects at a regional visitor venue.  
 
Work hours are flexible. The position is scheduled for half-time over a 12-month period. As an Intern you will set your hours and may elect to concentrate hours or have stretches without work. The internship experience is intended to be professional development and training. This position is designed to complement schooling/training and/or other work experience.
 
As the CPMO Intern you will

  • Collaborate with project managers by providing support to their everyday roles
  • Participate in the review, planning, and scheduling of projects in the design phase
  • Work along side project managers during active construction administration
  • Learn to balance the needs of various internal and external stakeholders
  • Coordinate project scope, schedule and budget for projects in design and active construction
  • Gain a deep understanding of public improvement projects, and working at Metro
  • Participate in trainings, workshops or presentations regarding project management best practices
  • Learn how Metro can impact equity in workforce and business development through its capital project management process

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED AND
  • Any combination of education, professional, volunteer and lived experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the classification duties and responsibilities.

Working Conditions
This role is split evenly between telework and on-site work at either the Metro Regional Center or Oregon Convention Center.  
 
Work at the Oregon Convention Center may involve entering active construction sites, walking for longer distances or standing for extended periods of time.  Metro will provide personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.

Hybrid Telework 
At this time, this position is designated as “hybrid telework”.  Roughly half the time will be split between telework and time coming into the office spaces at either the Metro Regional Center or Oregon Convention Center. The manager will work with you to identify a schedule that balances the operational needs of the department and your needs. Employees must reside in Oregon or Washington to work at Metro

Your transferable skills are any skills you have gained through education, work experience, including the military, or life experience that are relevant for this position.
 

  • Preferred experience with Microsoft Office Suite

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS AND REPRESENTATION
The full salary range for this position is step # 1, $20.20 per hour to step # 3, $24.00 per hour. However, unless a candidate’s qualifications justify, based on the Oregon Pay Equity Act requirements and Metro’s internal equity review process, the appointment will likely be made between Step # 1, $20.20 per hour to the equity range Step # 2, $22.00 per hour.
 
This position is eligible for overtime and is non-represented It is classified as an Intern.
