Fellowship Description:
Introduction:
Are you passionate about the intersection of livestock production and environmental sustainability? Symbrosia is seeking a motivated Animal Science Intern to join our team for a 12-week internship to contribute to our efforts in advancing research in the feed additive space. You will be tasked with an individual project to be completed during the course of the internship and potential for publication while contributing to ongoing efforts of the team. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage in various aspects of Symbrosia's operations, including scientific writing and communication, animal research, and data analysis.You'll play a critical role in amplifying our mission to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through innovative technologies.
Responsibilities:
Orientation (Week 1): Kickstart your internship with an extensive orientation to understand Symbrosia's mission and methodologies. Engage with key literature, establish valuable team connections, and familiarize yourself with our technology and research approach.
(Weeks 2-3): Play a crucial role in setting up and conducting a work plan for the project at hand. You'll dive into the literature to understand the interplay of Asparagopsis, livestock, and the environment.
Execute + Special Projects (Weeks 5 - 10): After developing the strategy, it’s time to execute! Collaborate with the Symbrosia team to complete the following projects:
Familiarize yourself with internal animal science data and convert it into accessible case studies for the Symbrosia website.
Participate in planning the quarterly Farmer Ambassador meeting.
Synthesize and Share (Weeks 11-12): Your journey culminates in the compilation of your work and presentation to the Symbrosia team.
Qualifications:
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Animal or Agricultural Science, Biology, or a related field.
Comfortable with animal nutrition and metabolism as well as comparative digestive anatomy between species
On-farm experience in either operations or research
Can critically analyze and interpret scientific publications
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Eagerness to learn new techniques and concepts, and to apply them in a practical research setting.
Genuine interest in environmental sustainability and innovation.
Enthusiasm for working in a startup environment and contributing to impactful projects.
Time Commitment: 10-15 hours / week
