Invent@NMU is searching for a successful and enthusiastic part-time Human-Centered Designer to join their team in Marquette, MI. As a Human-Centered Designer, you will support clients and Invent@NMU team through industrial and artistic design tasks, including sketching, model-making, graphic design and prototyping.  Responsible for meeting deadlines to keep work flow progressing and assist in bringing clients’ concepts to market.  Contribute to the Invent@NMU team in a variety of supportive functions as needed, such as special events and meeting with clients.  Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, collaborative, adaptable, and passionate. 

Qualifications: 

  • Dependable student with industrial design talent, confidence and strong communication skills.
  • Able to accept and provide feedback/critique within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Must be knowledgeable of current technology and be willing to try new programs within discipline (such as Adobe Creative Cloud, KeyShot and Rhino).
  • Must have essential design skill sets and willingness to take abilities to the next level through practical application.
  • Must be knowledgeable or willing to learn skills and tools related to laser cutting, cut and sew projects, hand sketches and 3D printing to execute projects.
  • Have the ability to work well in both team and self-directed environments.
  • Attention to detail, initiative, creativity, flexibility and proactive thinking are essential to drive the program’s innovative culture.
