Fellow
POSITION: The NewDEAL is looking for a Fellow available beginning in January to help us support our community of rising state and local elected leaders around the country committed to building progressive economic growth with a special focus on addressing systemic discrimination, and to help spread their innovative policy ideas. Responsibilities include everything from policy research, press releases, social media, website updates, and event coordination. Must have strong written and oral communications skills and be comfortable working independently. Although the fellowship will be a hybrid format, preference will be given to those living in the Washington, DC, area to facilitate in-person work. This is a great opportunity to dive into the fast-paced, exciting environment of a growing political start-up organization, to work on a diverse range of projects, and work closely with rising leaders from across the country.
Full time fellows will receive a $1000 monthly stipend, and part-time fellows’ stipend will be prorated from that amount, based on number of hours committed per week.
ABOUT THE NEWDEAL: The NewDEAL is a national network of rising state and local elected leaders who are pro-growth progressives. Our mission is to bring together leaders focused on expanding opportunity while remedying systemic injustices, and to help them develop and spread innovative ideas, especially as the nation navigates the continuing effects of the coronavirus pandemic. We do this by providing a national community that connects the NewDEAL Leaders with ideas, training, and relationships with top political, policy, and private sector leaders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Research and write about pro-growth progressive policy initiatives and track rising policymakers
- Monitor social media and news updates from our 200+ leaders to help promote their innovative work across the country
- Draft briefing memos, event invitations, social media posts, and outreach materials
- Help maintain and update databases, website, and track leader engagement
- Assist in coordinating virtual events, in-person event, and other outreach efforts
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently-enrolled college students or completed Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision and to work as part of a team
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize strategically, and take initiative
- Experience with NGP or NGP EveryAction preferred, but not required
- Interest in state and local government
