Entry-Level Archival Assistant (UPLINK)

The Central UP & NMU Archives is looking for an entry-level archival assistant to work on the UPLINK (Upper Peninsula Digital Network) project. The assistant will primarily digitize archival materials and create metadata (descriptions) for those materials. As part of this work, the assistant may need to do historical research to better describe the context of the collections. Student assistants may also be called upon to help with outreach, events, assisting patrons, clerical duties, and other tasks.

The Archives are responsible for collecting, preserving, organizing, and encouraging the use of historical materials relating to NMU and the central Upper Peninsula. This is responsible work, often challenging and interesting, with good adaptability to career job skills in fields like Archive and Museum Management or Information Technology.

We are willing to work around your academic and other commitments, but you do need to be able to commit to working at least 10 hours per week during our open hours, Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM. You can work up to 24 hours per week if desired. This job also offers the option of full-time summer employment, though being able to work in the summer is not a requirement of the position.
