Entry-Level Archival Assistant

We are looking for an entry-level archival assistant this fall!  Entry-level archival assistants support collection development and the public use of historical primary sources related to Upper Peninsula and NMU history. Student assistants play a critical role in preserving the past for future generations. The work is both challenging and interesting, offering many opportunities to develop valuable professional and academic skills. This position is a fantastic entry point into careers such as History, Archive and Museum Management, or Library and Information Technology.  Each student assistant will be trained for a specific task related to their skills and interests (i.e. arrangement and description, digitization, etc.) in addition to assisting patrons with research and other specially assigned tasks.  

We are willing to work around your academic and other commitments, but you do need to be able to commit to working at least 10 hours per week during our open hours, Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM. You can work up to 24 hours per week if desired. This job also offers the option of full-time summer employment, though being able to work in the summer is not a requirement of the position.

Required skills: Adaptability and problem-solving, attention to detail, organizational skills, ability to work independently, and willingness to learn new skills. 

Preferred skills: Customer service background, research and writing skills, Microsoft Excel, experience with digitization and audio-visual editing software (Photoshop, Audition, Premiere Pro).
