Intern, Manufacturing Engineer

As Saab has started a new advanced manufacturing operation in West Lafayette, IN, we are seeking motivated, enthusiastic Engineering students who are interested in further developing knowledge in manufacturing technology and methods through a paid Manufacturing Engineer Internship opportunity for Summer 2025. The Manufacturing Engineering function produces technical work for assembly and installation, rate readiness documentation, and process documentation. The function is also accountable for manufacturing engineering development, manufacturing techniques, and qualification of new products based on both Saab and customer requirements.

 

Under the guidance of Senior Engineers, responsibilities and learning opportunities may include:

  • Completion of a designated internship project, as assigned by the department manager. The project will be designed to provide the student an opportunity to practice skills and apply knowledge (coursework) by leading and coordinating a manufacturing engineering project with deliverable expectations and providing value-added impact to the operation.
  • Partner with assigned mentor to solicit feedback and direction as needed, regarding the project assignment.
  • Job duties will vary but are designed to meet the development needs of the student, as well as provide context for the completion of the assigned project task(s).
  • Contribute to the development of production systems and working methods and assist Manufacturing Engineers to achieve low production costs without compromising function and quality.
  • Support engineering team in the development of new technical solutions, and to the development of efficient production systems and assembly lines based on Lean principles.
  • Acquire experience with process planning for current and new products.
  • Contribute to a positive and productive work environment, aligned with our Company values: Trust, Drive, Expertise and Support.
  • Provide support to production flows and lay-outs.
  • Continuous improvement for efficient production.
  • Other tasks as assigned

 

Compensation Range: $20 - $22/hr

Skills And Experience

  • Enrollment in an accredited degree program, with a major in Engineering or related discipline is required.
  • Completed Freshman year or greater at time of hire (fall 2024)
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
  • Prior Co-Op experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Willingness and excitement to learn and take on new challenges.
  • Ability to be self-driven and deliver a high quality of work.
  • Ability to drive and lead change.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
