About the Position:

Under the supervision of a Senior Chemical Testing Engineer, the incumbent performs routine qualitative and quantitative tests and chemical analyses on water, soil, metals, coatings, concrete, cement, and miscellaneous other materials. Also performs physical testing of pavement markers, delineators, channelizers, retroreflective sheeting, engineering fabrics, traffic cones and other commodities. Assists with laboratory and field evaluation of new product submittals. Investigates complaints about defective materials used in the construction and maintenance of transportation facilities, including inspection of work related to the use of these materials. The incumbent is expected to perform all of the tasks necessary for preparation and completion of tests and analyses such as preparing chemical reagents, cleaning and assembling laboratory apparatus, sample preparation, recording data and preparation of reports.
