COMSAT operates a Satellite Ground Station (Teleport) in both Santa Paula, California, and Southbury, Connecticut. These Teleports were the first to achieve the highest Tier 4 certification in North America from the World Teleport Association and were awarded WTA Independent Teleport Operator of the Year in 2020.
Teleport Technician Job Summary:
Teleport provides the transitional path for clients' terrestrial data to signals in space.
The Teleport Technician position supports the operation and maintenance of the systems that provide satellite communications for clients.
The Teleport Technician will provide assistance supporting the teleport engineering staff with various teleport projects. In addition, the teleport technician will support client field service engineers with installations. The Teleport Technician will take calls and answer emails from Satellite Operators and Clients.
The Teleport is in Southbury, Connecticut.

- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all organizational levels with both internal and external customers.
- Ability to react swiftly in fault isolation of complex networks and systems while following procedures for restoration, escalation, and notification of routine and abnormal events.
- Providing accurate and detailed documentation of requests from clients and during troubleshooting events information which will become the basis for trouble ticket entry in the Jira Ticketing system.
- Strong PC skills in Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Outlook, and Visio.
To be successful in this role, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
General Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:
The Teleport Technician shall have knowledge of basic electronics skills and familiarization with basic AC/DC theory, Ohms law, analog and digital components, and RF theory.
- Knowledge of Satellite equipment including antenna tracking and control, HPA’s, SSPA’s, LNA’s, RF converters, modems, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators is important.
- The job has physical requirements when the task requires working on ladders or climbing antennas, as well as working in enclosed spaces.
- The Technician will be required to lift 50lbs.
- Associate's degree, Trade Degree/Certification, or equivalent military training in technology.
- Able to obtain an FCC General Class Radio Telephone Operator License.
