Intern, Pipeline Monitoring and Environments Compliance (PMEC) Section Records

Position Summary:

Two interns will assist the Technical Information Specialist (TIS) within the Pipeline Monitoring and Environmental Compliance (PMEC) Section at the BLM Alaska State Office in Anchorage, AK with a comprehensive box inventory of approximately 650 boxes of Trans-Alaska Pipeline (TAPS) records in accordance with defined metadata requirements for transfer to National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) for storage. If time allows, additional tasks involving filing and inventory of the PMEC’s TAPS records vault may be considered as well. These projects require attention to detail, high levels of organizational skills, and effective communication skills.

 

Schedule:

November 18, 2024 - May 18, 2025

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Create detailed and accurate file inventories for each box of records using pre-determined metadata requirements. The ability to problem solve and openly communicate with the TIS to create a work product that stays on schedule and meets the needs of NARA.

 

Required Qualifications:

Prefer someone with demonstrated organizational skills and eye for detail. Must be able to pass a federal background investigation. Must be able to lift boxes that weigh approximately 40 lbs.

 

Hours:

40 per week

 

Living Accommodations:

Housing is not provided. Candidates must have or be able to obtain housing in the Anchorage area.

 

Compensation : 

$600/wk living allowance

$1000 one-time travel stipend

$6,000 in duty-related reimbursements (to be used for housing, $1000/mo, receipts required)

AmeriCorps eligible ($3,697 Award; 900 hours required)

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.

General Physical Requirements:

Able to understand, adhere to, and communicate with others regarding hazards, procedures, and safety policies. 
Able to stay alert and engaged for extended periods of program time. 
Able to independently manage known medical conditions with the resources available throughout the position or program. 
Able to wear all required personal protective equipment, including internal or external, safety glasses, hard hats, gloves, N95 or other approved face mask or shield, chaps, and appropriate footwear.  
Able to refrain from behaviors and actions that disrupt the work and safety of others. 
Able to cooperate with others to complete daily group tasks, responsibilities, and project work under potentially difficult conditions, variable daily routines, and with limited personal time. 
Able to self-regulate or co-regulate emotions and actions when distressed or uncomfortable, with or without the support of others. 
Able to self-manage outdoor and environmental exposure (e.g., temperature, wind, sun, etc.) in a variety of weather conditions. 
If using prescription medications, able to self-medicate by following the prescribed dosage, usage, and timing without supervisor assistance (except possibly at the direction of higher medical authority in emergency situations).

Work schedules and projects may change on short notice or be ambiguous.;Work settings require the ability to positively interact with people of varying cultures and perspectives.; Natural environments and culturally significant locations that require respect to the land and indigenous peoples.; Cold temperatures and adverse winter weather which could include temperatures in some regions -20°F or colder with wind, snow, and sleet.
