University Ministry Sacristan
Position Type: Federal Work Study or Non-Work Study
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- It is primarily setting up, serving (similar to altar serving) during the Roman Catholic Masses and cleaning up after the Sunday 8PM Student Masses on McNichols campus in St. Ignatius Chapel in the Commerce and Finance Building (approximately 2 hours each Mass).
- Also, there are options to set-up and serve at daily Masses (MWF noon & T/Th 12:45 p.m.) 1.5 hour per day including other duties needed in the chapel and sacristy.
- The student will be trained by a Roman Catholic priest with all the logistics for set up and clean up.
- The student sacristan will support the priests who preside at the Masses at least 1-2 times per month.
- The student may also be asked to be sacristan at special Masses throughout the academic year (Holy days of Obligation, Ash Wednesday, etc.).
- This can also include reading from Scripture or serving as a Eucharistic Minister during Mass but that is optional.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience in a Catholic Church setting especially at Masses.
- Experience as an altar server and/or sacristan
Anticipated Schedule:
- Rotating Monday-Friday 2 hours; Rotating Sundays - 2-3 hours.
